For today’s walk I again left my earbuds in the car and set out to record things as a seer of sights. Today’s walkabout will be told with pictures in the order upon which they entered my field of vision…
I love this tree! Usually there are three crow there, but two flew off as I was parking. This one stayed to greet me.
Today is the start of Labor Day weekend so being that it was barely 6:30 AM when I started out, the streets were quiet and void of traffic and the sun just coming over the horizon.
I do miss my sweet old Ragdoll Kitty, and when I got home I actually thought about checking out our local rescue, especially after seeing an article on substack about how cats are healers and people who are owned by cats live on average seven years longer than their counterparts who don’t. Hmmmm…
Something about form and texture and who knows how long this post and ring have been here! The town of South Berwick was settled in 1631. That was around the time some of my forefathers staggered off a ship from England.
I once read the reason the British Pilgrims landed in 1620, “after 66 tortuous days at sea…” was because they’d run out of “Mead”. Whether it’s true or not I don’t know, but made for a good story.
(Actually they first anchored in Provincetown Harbor MA). And while they were exploring Cape Cod, they didn’t exactly endear themselves to the Native Americans. I can well imagine a bunch of “dry drunks” tramping over sacred indigenous ground trying to figure out a good place in which to fashion a Still.
I could go on, but I best stop there lest I get myself all into a political dither. (It’s that digression thing…)
T’is the time of the season…In the artemisia family Mugwort has reached heights of over six feet with small purplish flowers which will soon go to seed for next years invasive spreading crop. It does have medicinal qualities as do so many weeds I meet upon my travels.
“Historically, mugwort has been used in traditional systems of medicine in different parts of the world. Today, mugwort taken orally (by mouth) is promoted for digestive problems, irregular menstruation, and high blood pressure. It is also promoted as a sedative, laxative, and liver tonic”.
Some believe you can stuff some under your pillow for interesting dreams. No thanks, I have wild dreams enough as it is.
Yard sale. They must have put everything out the night before. It’s a perfect weekend for one! NO RAIN. I may even have to water my garden this weekend for the first time all summer.
Walking back to my car I saw a white square on the grass just near where I parked. Upon further inspection… Lovely. I have eaten at this establishment in the next state over the border, and they do have great pizza. The number “10” must have been the size of the pie this misanthropic miscreant decided to chuck out his/her window after sitting and devouring it in three bites. (My cartoon brain is being very judgmental right about now.)
I walked over and using the the thumb and pointer finger on either hand as pincers, I carefully opened it up. No pizza, (no surprise there) just some mold starting up and a large black cricket jumped out. Sorry “Jiminy”, this is going in the proper receptacle.
I walked over to my car and grabbed a plastic bag I keep looped onto my shifter. (Ya, I know, plastic—I do shop with my own cloth bags, but keep the occasional plastic one in my car.) After stomping this box into a manageable square, I stuffed it into the bag along with some other small pieces of litter and tied it up. Then as I’m heading back to my car—more ephemera—an empty cigarette box. *Sigh* I picked that up too. All the years ago I used to smoke I’d never seen that brand before.
Oh well. It was a great walkabout today regardless of how it ended.
I love the variety of views. The morning glories have a stunning color. When I smoked-quit 24 years ago-I would never dream of dropping an empty pack on the ground. Likewise for putting one out on the street and grinding it with my shoe. Inconsiderate people ruin it for the rest of us. Good for you to pick up the stuff. Looking forward to your next entry.
I really enjoyed joining you on this walkabout! 🌟
